Cook-off volunteers prepare 200 meals for the homeless.

Cook-Off

Cook-off volunteers gather every eight weeks on the third Sunday of the month to assemble 200+ dinners to be distributed to other homeless shelters in the city. No cooking is involved. All ingredients are frozen.

Meal assembly begins at noon and is usually finished by 2 PM, including cleanup. So your time commitment is limited and easy to fit into a busy schedule. Check Upcoming in the right-side menu to see when we will gather next. You can sign-up on this page or just show up.

While you won’t meet the people who enjoy your meals, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have provided welcome and necessary nutrition to those who cannot provide for themselves. And you could pick up a few menu ideas besides!

Our volunteers include women and men of all ages, children and teenagers. This is an easy volunteer activity for parents to teach their children the value and importance of community service.

Meal distribution is carried out by Bethesda Project, an ecumenical community supporting the chronically homeless in Philadelphia.
